we emailed the band just to make sure that they will be willing to let us use the song and to make sure that we were not breaking any copy right laws. They said yes :)

planning of video
After i had researched into all the diffrent aspects about music videos and the ways it is directed and created we got together as a group to decide on what we wanted to include in our video and in what style we were going to film it in. After a lengthy discussion we decided on doing it in animation and stop motion, we chose these form of filming because we were greatly inspired by several movies we watched mainly by michael gondry.
We then did several experiements with diffrent forms of cgi, filming and animation. we did this to help us to decide what techniques and technologies we would use to create the animation for our music video. we decided on using vegas movie maker to edit our video, we chose this because we had used it last year and were familiar with using it. We also decided on using windows movie maker to bring all the diffrent pictures we had taken for the stop maotion process, we chose this programe because we all had access to it and were all familiar with using it. The final computer programe we used was photoshop, we used this to arrange and sort out our pictures, we also used this programe because again we all had easy access to it and all knew how to use it.
First attempt
we then decided on what to actually include in the video, we felt that it was important that we include images relevant to the words and also the mood of the song. To help us do this we researched several diffrent movies the first one that stood out and i enjoyed was michael gondry music video for the white stripes.
the next video which i thought was good was the gummy bear video
The last video which i watched which i felt could really help was gorillaz video feel good inc
Theese videos really gave me some very good ideas that i want to encorperate into our video.
We then decided on what genre and song we would use for the video. we decided on using the genre of punk rock and the song too many nights too many faces by goldfinger, we chosed this song because we felt that the llyrics gave us a wide variety of images and ideas we could use n the video, we also chose the band because we had already done research into the band.

The general idea of the music video is that someone gets sucked through a pc screen and a super heor follows him to save him and bring him back to his own world, they go through several forms of animation trying to escape from the world.
the next piece of planning we did was to look at the original video
The things that really stood out for me are the fact that it is just mainly the band performing live and just messing around, i also noticed that it had some xplicit content in so may not be suitable for certain audiences. I also noticed how the editing is in time with the music and this is something i think that we will include in the music video.

basic music video forms and conventions
the key is for the video to acuratly portray the genre of song and styl of music and lyrics. The problem with defining the forms and conventions of a music video is the fact that there are so many and a band can just create one if they really wish for example if they want to they can mis satanic images mixed with songs about loving a girl. To attempt to define form and conventions i have tried to research and pick up on common ocurances between certain music styles and certain videos.
The common things i have picked up on are
- lyrics establish the general feeling, mood and sense of subject rather than the actual meaning of the songs and lyrics
- the tempo of the song very often defines the editing pace
- punk rock music videos very often include the images of the band
- ballads or soul very often just involve the artist or singer in a relaxing place suchas a beach
- R&B music videos vey often involve the artist and the thing they are singing about suchas if they are singin about a girl
- Rock bands will very often include live images and videos from their perfomances

define music video
i have taken steps to attmept to define music videos i have studied the book dancing in the distraction factory by andrew goodwin. the book shows how even exsperts and critics define diffrent music videos in diffrent ways, there are several key theories that they have come to conclude on
-mercer belives that they are part of the cinamatic genre or a short film accompied by music
-Fry and Fry belives that they are merely adverts portraying and advertising the band
-Walker sees them as visual art
-Marcus sees them as no more than semiotic pornography
All theese views show the complexite of music videos and forevey arguement and opion there is always a counter arguement and opion.
The book also challenges the view and opinion that MTV are totally responsible for the lack of attention span and modern society relianse on visual images to enjoy music, however it also argues that if it were not for this dependence then alot of stars may not have achieved their stardum.

music directors
we looked at the work of several key music directors and producers suchas spike jonze who has been taking the images that make up America's visual vernacular - TV shows, ad campaigns, B-movies - and using them to create and fuel his sly and ironic humor. His first key directors job was directing the video for the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage" in 1994.
We also looked at the work of michael gondry who is a french film, commercial and music video director, is also an academy award winning screenwriter. His career as a filmmaker began with creating music videos for the French rock band Oui Oui, in which he also served as a drummer. The style of his videos for Oui Oui caught the attention of music artist Björk, who asked him to direct the video for her song "Human Behaviour". Gondry made his feature film debut in 2001 with Human Nature, garnering mixed reviews. His second film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was released in 2004 and received very favorable reviews, becoming one of the most critically acclaimed films of the year.
another key director i studied was david fincher who is an academy nominated film maker and music video director who focuses his work around dark and stylish movies suchas alien 3 or fightclub. In 1980 he was hired by industrial light and magic In 1984 he left ILM to direct a commercial for the american cancer society, his rebeliouse and controversial work soon gained him a repretation which was soon notice by los angeles producers and given the chance to direct the documentary the beat of the live drum.
theese 3 directors are evidence of the influx of music video directors into feature films.

sound and vision
Music videos are probaly the ultimate exspression of feeling, passion and it represents many diffrent trends and social groups from emo to gangster rap. It also brings many diffrent forms of contemporary culture coming together.
-commodification
-textual 'schizophrenia'
-the postmodern disappearance of reality
-the erosion of authentcity
inauthentic authenticity
This is when we as an audience know that the band is not actually singing in a music video but rather acting and miming, but because we are more focused on the visual images of the video we do not care.
MTV
MTV is a major development in the world of music because it brought music videos to the real forefront of the music world where as before the bands focused on music. It also meant that band started using their videos to really advertise and promote heir band.
Music videos
Incresingly bands are focusing more on image than music, this is because people are focusing more and more on the image of an artist or band than the music, it is because of this that maybe the best artist are not getting their chance because they may be ugly, spotty or fat. Another key example of this is how on ertain tv shows people talk about how they perform to the crowd and that they look like a star and this suggest that there maybe certain attributes you have to have to be a star rather than just being a good singer or muscian.

It has also been in the last 10 years that the videos portrays the artist feelings or the maeaning of the song because it just use to be the band performing but know it has images and effects which really portrays the song to the audience.
However there is an incresing change in the ratio of music and sound compared to the amount of visual images and sequences this is due to the fact their is a belief growing that 'the youth of today listen with their eyes' this is because of the great advances in technology that allows media producers to encorperate increasing levels of visual image effects.
