It is almost impossible to say how my video really challenges the forms and conventtions of a music video because there are so many diffrent forms and conventions wihin the music industry. However i feel that my video does challenge some forms and conventions of a music normal punk rock music video.
The normal conventions and forms of a normal punk rock video are using the band and in particular the lead singer as the main charcter and focus of the video. They also normally foolow a loose narrative based on the words and lyrics of the song, our video does not really do this because it is not organised enough to do it apart from at the very, we did this on purpose because wanted the video be abstract and disorganised.
the video reflects the structure of the song because when there are drums and guitars we have images of drums and guitars and this fits in with normal forms and conventions of a punk rock video because they too use this technique.
our video relise heavily on montage editing because it has several forms of animation in it and this its in with the normaly forms and conventions of a normal music video. It also uses juxtaposed scenes because we swith from the band to lighting and then to a guitarist and a normal music video does this.
it also challenges the authenticty of the band because they are models of plaster scene and clay. This challenges the forms and conventions of a punk rock video because a video in the style of punk rock very often include images of the band . Our video also challenges the forms and conventions of a music video because they are normally very structured and have a clear and precise series of events and sequences whereas in ours it is structured in the begining but as the the music changes and becomes more fast and disorganised so does our video. We did this because we wished our video to be more retro and abstract, this is also a key reason for us using animation because it makes it look more abstract.
We have also included in our video the title of the song and the band at the beginning of the video and the end, we did this because it makes it seem more realistic because when you see videos on music channels they always introduce the name of the song and artist or band. however the way in which we present the titles of the song and name of the band challenges the normal forms and conventions of a music video beacuse we do it in animation and it is all over the screen.
We have also structured our music video to fit in with the forms and conventions of a music video in the style of punk rock because we use lots of shots of the animated models who are the main characters, we have used close ups to emphasize their importants and this fits in with the form and conventions because in a punk rock style video their are normally lots of shots of the band and mostly close ups of the lead singer.
The way in which we match and use images which portray the music and lyrics also conforms with the conventions and forms of a music video because in a punk rock style video their are normaly images which portray the meaning of the lyrics and music.
we have challeneged the forms and conventions of music videos in another way because the lead singers voice is used as an instrument this is known as grain of voice we have not really used this technique because 90% of our video is images of the band and images but not really many of the lead singer.
The fact that we hve used models as our main performers challeneges the forms and conventions of a music video because a punk rock video normally uses real life people and very rarely inanimate objects in their videos.
Our video is also a disjunctured video because it is completely abstarct and this also conforms with the forms and conventions of a music video because they can sometimes be completely abstar, suchas michael gondrys video for the white stripes.
It challenges the forms and conventions of a music video as well because we have a mixture of faced editind mixed with slo mo and this is not like a normal video because they are usally either faced paced or slow depending on the speed of the music.
The fact that it looks cool also greatly increases its repeapetability because it will always be interesting and exciting to the audience and this is what all music videos try and do.
